:D
Part dos. :]
Here’s everything Scivetts said about the midterm the other day. Questions are in regular font, her hints/answers are in italics. Good luck guys, and remember, only pick three!
MIDTERM QUESTIONS: [*=difficult question]
*****Scivetts is impressed with two or so pages*****
A: Phineas Gage. By John Martin Harlowe (19th century- give a date!). Go into the background, who he was before. Explain the incident: explosion, metal rod went into brain. Articulate what happened (personality change- curse words, degrading to women) due to the rod piercing a certain part of the brain.
HISTORICALLY: Previously, we didn’t believe personality was rooted in the brain. So they investigated if it was brain-based.
CULTURALLY: Autism: how some countries diagnose it earlier than others (U.S. 2-3, Germany 5-6), and how China doesn’t diagnose at all. Cultural influence- (“We don’t have that disorder here.”)
A: If you do a research method (interview, case study, observation, scientific method), you must do EVERYTHING. i.e. Cover every aspect (covert/overt observation, structured and unstructured interviews, etc.) This one’s difficult just ‘cause you hafta include sooo much info in order to get full marks.
A: Give a little ditty on what ethics are – guidelines put forth for researchers to follow so that humans and nonhumans are not harmed in testing. Example: ethical considerations in animal research! Explain limitations in research on biological perspective due to ethical considerations, like post mortem research, etc. You can support it with a study if you want, but if you don’t clearly answer the question and instead go off on a tangent, she’ll take off points.
Scivettiism: Include EVERYTHING BUT THE KITCHEN SINK. But be sure to answer the question. :D
A: Able to look at the brain WHILE ALIVE. Use Adrian Raine/NGRI study.
A: Mr. Split Brain! Broca’s Aphasia! Wernicke’s Area! Any of these three would work, they’re fabulous. :] HAVEEE TO know one of these.
A: Easy as hellll! Detail what a neurotransmitter is and what a drug is. Explain what they do. Give an example of one neurotransmitter and one drug, and explain/give details. Apply what happens on behavior: go through your whole presentation, explaining effect of drug on neurotransmitter, and then at end, explain how behavior changes. Ex. Caffeine: before, may be tired, groggy, slow. After, produces an over rush of adrenaline, become jittery, awake, etc.

The Right Brain vs Left Brain test
do you see the dancer turning clockwise or counterclockwise?
If clockwise, then you use more of the right side of the brain. If counterclockwise, the left side. You can also try to change the direction of the girl. (only if you can)
Right side: holistic thought, intuition, creativity, art&music
Left side: analytic thought, logic, language, science and math
EDIT; my hopes and dreams were killed by my psych class </3 (: haha.
